Kuala Lumpur, September 8 – Three ExxonMobil subsidiary companies in Malaysia have been awarded a total of seven Gold Awards between them for the 'Petroleum, Gas, Petrochemical and Allied Sectors' category of the 2005 Malaysian Society of Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) Safety Awards competition.
Esso Malaysia Berhad, ExxonMobil Malaysia Sdn Bhd and ExxonMobil Borneo Sdn Bhd won Gold Awards for safety performance covering the Port Dickson Refinery and distribution terminals at Port Dickson, Bagan Luar, Kuantan, Westport, Tasek and Borneo terminals covering Sepangar Bay, Sandakan and Tawau. Deputy Minister of Human Resources Malaysia and Chairman of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health Datuk Abdul Rahman bin Bakar presented the awards to the winners in a ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur tonight. "These awards symbolise ExxonMobil's strong commitment and dedication to achieving superior safety performance," said Dato' Rob Fisher, Chairman of the ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia. "ExxonMobil has many business priorities, but there is none greater than the safety of our workplaces." Dato' Fisher attributed the outstanding safety performance to tremendous team work and a constant focus on continuous improvement. "Our management, employeesand contractors consider safety a value that can never be compromised and collectively focus on achieving ExxonMobil's global safety goal of 'Nobody Gets Hurt'," he added. Safety performance at the Port Dickson refinery has been outstanding. By year-end 2005, the site had clocked four million man-hours over 10 years without any employee lost-time injuries and 0.3 million man-hours over three years without a contractor lost-time injury. The Refinery has won numerous Grand and Gold Awards from MSOSH since the inception of the awards in 1992. ExxonMobil's fuels distribution terminals have been recognised by MSOSH for the fifth consecutive year. ExxonMobil's downstream distribution operations employ about 400 regular and contract employees in eight locations. They have reached eight consecutive years without any lost time injury, and two consecutive years without any incident, earning them the ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Asia Pacific Silver Award. The ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia have a long history of safety excellence. Last year, the companies received one Gold Merit Award and eight Gold Awards from MSOSH. They have also won numerous safety awards from various government and industry groups.
