KUALA TERENGGANU, November 21 - The ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia today continued its support of Terengganu by contributing RM270,800 to the State as part of its corporate contributions programme and unveiling of its 2008 calendar, themed Visit Terengganu Year 2008.
"ExxonMobil is committed to being a good corporate citizen and a caring neighbour through positive contribution towards the development and progress of the Terengganu community," said ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia Chairman Liam M. Mallon at an appreciation dinner held for state and community leaders.
"We are proud to have contributed to the growth of Terengganu through our long term partnership with the various state government agencies and we willcontinue to support education, welfare, health and environmental programmes to benefit the Terengganu community," he added.
During the dinner, the State Education Resource Centre received RM100,000 for the construction of outdoor activity stations at the new-ExxonMobil sponsored English Theme Park at the Tok Jiring Teachers' Activity Centre at SK Tok Jiring in Kuala Terengganu while the State Health Department received RM90,000 for the purchase of truck radios to improve pre-hospital medical services at district health clinics in the State.
The Terengganu State Library received RM55,870 to purchase computers and furniture to further equip the Library’s Children’s Cyber Corner while the Kerteh Library will utilize RM10,000 to organize a drawing and colouring competition for children during the December school holidays. ExxonMobil also contributed RM15,000 to KEMAS Kemasik to help purchase school uniforms for children from poor families in KEMAS nurseries in Kemasik who will enter Primary One in 2008.
According to Mallon, the theme of the company's corporate calendar was selected to support the Visit Terengganu Year. 2008. The theme is also featured in the company's 2008 diary.
The calendar features glimpses of Terengganu’s spectacular seascapes at the islands of Redang, Perhentian Besar, Perhentian Kecil, Kapas, Tenggol and Lang Tengah, that offers among the best dives and snorkeling sites in the region.
“We hope that through this calendar we have been able to leave an impression on the wonders of Terengganu and in a small way help the state in its tourist promotion efforts,” said Mallon.
About 15,300 copies of the calendar have been printed for distribution to ExxonMobil contacts both in Malaysia and overseas.
ExxonMobil's corporate contributions to education, health, welfare, arts and environment projects in Malaysia total about RM2 million each year. A large portion of this is channeled to support various projects in Terengganu where ExxonMobil's upstream operations are located. This year to date, the company has contributed over RM700,000 to the state. In addition to the company's corporate contributions, ExxonMobil employees also play their part in giving back to society through employee volunteer programmes which help to meet the needs in the local communities.
