In Malaysia, we have long had operations in Kuala Lumpur, Kerteh in Terengganu and Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan. As a member of the communities in which we operate, we enjoy a close-knit relationship with community leaders and receive regular input on the specific needs of these communities. We have made on-going contributions through the years, from improving health and public amenities and funding health programs to organizing educational activities at local libraries, sponsoring sports awards and national day events. Kuala Lumpur Each year we join the people of Malaysia in the auspicious National Day celebrations. We have sponsored the Konsert Merdeka KLCC, the Merdeka Art Competition for children at the National Art Gallery and have given away mini-Malaysian flags each year to commemorate this special day. We provided funds to support pre-school facilities for rural families where pre-schoolers are taught the rudiments of reading, writing and arithmetic while younger children are provided with day-care. Close to 20 nurseries have been established, benefiting approximately 5,000 children. Beyond the workplace, we also promote safety in the communities where we do business. We contributed to the country’s first Health and Safety program in school project organized by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Piloted successfully in SMK Convent, Kajang in 2003, the program aims to inculcate a safety awareness and culture in schools and has since yielded a set of OSH-in-School guidebooks developed for use at other participating schools. Terengganu ExxonMobil has sponsored scholarships and merit awards for students in Terengganu since 1976 in collaboration with the State Education Department. These annual awards promote academic excellence and encourage all-round performance in students. At the Kerteh Health Clinic we sponsor the Adolescent Health Program where families and adolescents are offered advice on nutrition, stress and anger management, as well as the dangers of drug abuse. We’ve upgraded health facilities in Terengganu, including sprucing up the Paka Health Clinic and replacing the old Kemaman Hospital playground with new and safer facilities. We’ve also purchased new haemodialysis machines and emergency telecommunications equipment for the Kuala Terengganu Hospital. Negeri Sembilan Since 1976, ExxonMobil, in collaboration with the Negeri Sembilan State Education Department, has sponsored scholarships and merit awards to students in the state. These annual awards promote academic excellence and encourage all-round performance in students. We are a long supporter of the Run for the Disabled, which is organized in conjunction with the Seremban Half Marathon. We also sponsor the Negeri Sembilan Schools Sports Awards which recognizes outstanding athletes in from the State.
