ExxonMobil is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, health and environmental care. We comply with all applicable environmental laws as a minimum standard, and we apply responsible standards where laws and regulations do not exist. We believe a company's commitment and performance in the area of safety, health and environment is indicative of outstanding performance in other aspects of its operations. Our journey towards operational and safety excellence has taken us through many phases. Since the early 1990s, we have developed, implemented and continually improved a comprehensive Operations Integrity Management System, or OIMS for short. This system fully meets the requirements of the ISO 14001 benchmark and is used at every ExxonMobil facility. OIMS is a disciplined framework for operational standards of safety, health and environmental protection, and allows us to measure progress and plan future improvements. It is applicable to all areas of our business including safety and health. OIMS also creates a common language which facilitates efficient internal communications and the sharing of information and documentation. OIMS comprises 11 elements, each containing an underlying principle and a set of expectations. The 11 elements include risk management, ensuring best practices at the design and construction stages, personnel training in safety and health matters, emergency preparedness, to third party compliance and contributions, educating public communities in proximity to our operations. Safety Programs and Initiatives While it is important to have good systems in place, active employee involvement is crucial to achieving our safety, health and environmental objectives. Among our safety programs are U-See U-Act, Job Safety Analysis and the Loss Prevention System which inspire a proactive approach toward mitigating incidents. Such programs are also extended to our contractors and third-party workers to ensure a synergized approach to safety and to push safety to the personal behavior level. Awards and Milestones Thanks to the efforts of both our employees and contractors, our operations in Malaysia have been recognized for safety and environmental excellence and we have won numerous awards from both ExxonMobil as well as from various government, industry and safety bodies. Both our upstream and downstream organizations have consistently been recognized by the Malaysian Society of Occupational Safety & Health (MSOSH). Since 2001, our Production Projects and Production Operations functions received a total of two Grand Awards, two Gold Merit Awards and two Gold Awards for safety excellence. Between 2001 and 2006, our Port Dickson Refinery and downstream distribution terminals received a total of 33 Gold Awards for safety performance. Port Dickson Refinery was honored with the Grand Award for outstanding safety performance in 2006. The Refinery completed 11 years of continuous operations without an employee lost time injury in 2007.
